Since just after the turn of the century (1910) we have “suffered” with tungsten filament incandescent lights/globes. I say suffered because the concept of this type of light is quite remarkable in that we have all put up with the idea for so long. This concept was quite founded, for its day, making a short piece of fine wire glow and thus emit light when a voltage is applied. By today’s standards this is an extraordinary waste of energy as only some 2.6% of the power used on a 100 watt globe is actually light, the rest being heat!
